rear suspension

Post by modsingle »

I am working on a 1983 V Max. I bought the sled with a spare rear suspension. I am rebuilding the spare rear suspension using the original syspension as a guide. The original suspension is about 1 inch wider for the steel tube that houses the rear mounting pivot in the tunnel. Were there spacers or something to take up the space? What keeps the skid from going right to left? Thanks for any help.

change what you can from 1 suspension to the other to make it fit if it dont fit make new shafts or buy them or weld up the tubes with some same diameter pipe or try some spacers. That shaft has to be tight in the tunnel, it doesnt move, the suspension moves around it.

The 85 -91 SRV's, 91-93 Exciter II's, 92-96 Vmax4's and the 1994-96 Vmax5/600's used the same Original style Pro-Action rear suspension as the 540. I believe(?) the Vmax4's and the 5/600's had a wider tunnel.
