Anybody running 44mm Carbs?

Post by ThePipe »

Anybody running 44mm Mikunis? and their Vmax
I wanted to stick with the stock ones but can't find one.

I am just going to put my PSI pipes and 44s on my 1983

One Problem
I bought these carbs, New PreJetted for these Pipes in 1992
A few years ago I let a pal borrow them for his Go Kart and he went and rejetted them.

To make a long story short......

What should it have for mains?
Right now the left is 380 and right is 360
Needles are in the middle
Temps----> 32° to 15°

Thanks guys

From the Articles section 1986 porting update.

Regarding the carburetion on the update port V-Max, the stock 38mm carbs are all the engine requires. Larger carbs will not increase airflow or horsepower on this engine. This is similar to a Wildcat, which developed the same airflow and horsepower with either 38mm, 40mm, or 44mm carbs.

I have lots of carbs give me a shout.
Thanks

44s /airbox

Post by SRXfromHELL »

I run 44s on my 81SRX and after 4 years , multiple burn downs I am finally getting this thing to work . One major issue I have found is that the air box will not flow enough air to feed 44s over 3/4 throttle pinned it will turn to about 7000 rmp BTW its an 8R9 airbox after removing the plastic baffle it would turn to about 8000 remove steel plate 9000 rpm
now to jetting given the 440 and 540s are similar but still very different animals my current jets are 480 mag side and 490 pto side , I had to use a polaris thumb lever just to get the 44s to open , stock would only pull to 3/4 some other smaller issues you might incounter is that the mag side sits on the lower coolant hose and the cap sits up against the upper hose ,upper hose must be removed and carb tilted to get the top off to adjust needle setting and stretching the air box boots over the 44 bells well lets just say put them on the carbs before putting them in the sled then slide back to airbox cause you'll never get them on the carbs if there in the machine attached to the box
Makes me wonder why those 38 s are still hanging on the shop wall !!!!!
