stator??

Post by stinger440 »

I finally got a chance to dig into my 85 v max today. I did some ohm checks on the stator Based on the 86 specs from the article index. Everything checks out except when I try to get a reading from brown to red. I get nothing. Is that telling me my stator is bad? Or is that saying something else in the system is bad? And would that be the culprit causing me to not have spark. Thanks in advance.

Stinger,
Bingo...... a Charging coil with no resistance 0 ohms or (infinity) means an open or burnt out coil. a meter reading with very low to almost no resistance means a shorted coil either way this would cause a no spark condition. The Charging coil should be 245+/- 10% at 68 degress F. or 20 degress C. I would have a used coil if you're interested. Later Chuck S.

Thats kinda what I thought. I am going to see if the local yard has a complete stator that I can just install. Will other yamaha stators work for this?

Can someone walk me through the process of removing the stator. Do I have to pull the engine?

To think I was told I just had to plug in a new CDI. HA!! Its never that easy.
