Ultimate clutch set up

Post by dave »

Hey Guys. Been sifting thru all the information on clutching on this site and just wanted to know what you would consider the ultimate. The stock 102 and secondary with spring and weight changes. The 108 with the helix mods to the stock secondary. The 108 with a arctic or polaris secondary or maybe a 108 with a secondary off one of the next generation V-max. Or ??? Looking forward to your input. Thanks

Hi Dave, There are alot of different oppinions and setups. Some work real nice and could be better than stock and others are a constant problem. The one thing I would say is unless you have a GOOD stock clutch calibrated to stock settings you have nothing to compare changes to. You can play with other clutches and calibrations and make things better than what you've got but that doesn't mean that it is better OEM setup unless you have it to compare to. Finding good OEM primary clutches for these is almost impossible. I've got an NOS 8U9 clutch and have been wanting to do some testing to find an available clutch and setup that will match it but have not been able to get the time to do it.

Good Luck, Phil (opsled)

P.S. pic is of a Polaris setup on my 81 mod. It isn't completely tested out either. I have 3 kids in college that are eating all my time and money. :(
