Ok since this is the newest sled I have ever had I am going to have some dumb questions. The dash of my 85 vmax has a choke lever on each side of the steering column. What is the second one used for?
I also had a cool find tonight. buried under the clutches was a complete factory tool kit. I don't think it had ever been opened cause all the tools were nested perfectly. Rusty but nested.

Check that fuel shut off over real good and try to get it to work. They can be taken apart and cleaned up. Sometimes that is all that they need but be carful with the cable. There is a piece of plastic in the splitter that can break if one of the plungers is stuck in the valve and that cable is no longer available.
83 and 84 models had manual (turn type) shut offs in the same location as the later cable type. You had to raise the hood to operate them but they were alot more dependable.
It is important to have working fuel shut offs on these sleds as they are prone to filling the crankcase with fuel when being transported on a trailer or even sitting still with the tail rasied and you will wear out 3 or 4 arms trying to get it cleared out if that happens.
I have about ten 81 SRX 440 and 83-87 Vmax 540 parts machines here and would have just about everything you could need so if you run into a bind give me a call 262-767-9023.

I think my fuel cutoff switch worked. I had the fuel lines off the carbs and I pulled it a couple times looking for spark and pretty much shot old fuel everywhere. So I pulled the lever and tried it again and no fuel shots. The cable still needs to be cleaned up but at least its working.
