Stock can/muffler question

Post by dansvan »

Can someone with a stock can/muffler please measure the distance the inlet pipes run into the can? I need to know if the stinger length continues into the can and what the length is. I have no stock muffler and want to install individual stinger silencers but want to keep my tuned length correct. Thanks for any and all help.

I am at work and can measure tonight. The way I understand (which could be wrong) is the tuning/scavaging is done with the shape and lenght of the pipes. The silencer simply adds a little more back pressure with the baffles made to silence the exhaust ?

You are correct. However the stinger continues into the muffler a certain length. That is part of the tuned portion. On some applications ie dirt bikes etc the silencer is actually part of the length equation. People use them as a tuning tool by installing shorter or longer ones. If you can get a good measurement that would be awesome. If not I may have to find one and cut it open to see. Thanks!
