Tunning up the SRX 440
I know you guys told me that I can make the 81 srx 440 trail rideable if I just maintain it. I have a v-max (83) or 84 bottom end for it. Will this solve the blowing up problems. ALso i have 38 round slides for it what jets do I need??
If I were you I would just leave it alone and just run it like it is. Remember that Old saying (If it ain't broke don't fix it) . Yes the Vmax bottom end is a better piece, and yes the 38 VM carbs are better, but the 540 bottom end has more volume then the 440 and may not give you the same HP, and the carbs can be hard to set up if you don't have the equipment or the knowledge to tune them for the different engine. So if you aren't having any problems just keep it stock and enjoy it, take it from me they aren't as bad a sled as people let you believe. In my opinion(and opinions are like -ssholes everybody has one) I think that people have more trouble with these sleds by trying to change them or " Improve" them then if they would just leave them alone. Just my two cents..

SRX
Well the v-max bottom end came with the motor I got and the carbs came with the sled also. I thought the 38's eliminated alot of the tunning??? I had a guy that wanted to give me the butterflies for $50. But the 38 rounds are what came with the sled. Some dink put a 340 invader kawaski engine in the SRX with the carbs and the pipes from the 81 SRX. I wonder why it blew up LOL, some people.

v-max crank??
So am I going to have problems having the vmax crank on there now?? I heard they worked ok.
No they will work just fine , but they may have a little more crankcase volume so they may be down a couple of HP .If that is what you have I would just use it. What I meant about people having problems is changing carbs and different oiling systems, things like that, you will be fine.

yo
Ya onebun the oil injection is disconnected ill premix just premix it and remember that the v-max is oil injection. Man we gotta get together when you come down with the wife. When it snows good down here its like being up north and we can go for big rides.

hi
So guys you think i can use the SRX to ride a few hours a day when we have snow. If so i was just gonna sell my v-max because I just bought a ET yamaha 250 its reallly neat. My buddy said that i can use the 81 SRX pipes on the v-max 540 motor?? What do you guys think???
Re: hi
The 81 pipes, ignition and clutches were all calibrated together to run at a higher R.P.M. Who knows what putting just the pipes on a Vmax 540 will do ? Watch closely your jetting !chrisrider63 wrote:So guys you think i can use the SRX to ride a few hours a day when we have snow. Well then i never thought of the igniton on the vmax craftshaft......I should really just put a 540 in the sled and sell my 86 vmax. I see alot of guys doing that but it stilll has the SRX gearing.....
