Comet Clutch Rebuilding questions ?
I have 5 Comet 102's from back in the day that I decided to rehabilitate, I actually had 7 but, after finding worn spiders and cracked sheaves I ended up with only 5. I have read that some say when retightening the spider you should use lock tight and other say a clutch will only get tighter with time and if you ever took a 25+ year old clutch apart then, you know how much fun that is.....
Yamaha's service manual of which I have several different years do not show lock tight for the spider and shows 173Nm or 12.5 ft.lb. Comet shows to use lock tight and tighten the spider to 250 ft. lbs ! Personally, I have never seen a clutch unscrew itself from the fixed sheave and can't imagine using 250 ft.lbs. What sould torque setting be set and would you use lock tite ? I'm half tempted to use never seize.

Re: Comet Clutch Rebuilding questions ?
Thanks, I did not catch that, there must be an error in Yamaha's manuals ? Still 127 ft. Lbs is half of Comets 250 ft Lb recommendation ?

Use the red locktite and I use a 4' bar on my homemade spider tool to tighten. I have seen the clutch spider spin off and I have seen the "fixed" sheave spin off and it is not pretty.
