I took my '85 Vmax out for it's maiden voyage (at least for me- I've never ridden it) and it ran great for about 30 minutes and then it started having a slight misfire. I took it back to the garage and just before I pulled it in it dropped a cylinder completely. I checked spark and compression and both were good to my great relief so then I pulled the fuels lines off the carbs and pulled it over and only one side pumped fuel.
I've searched for OEM fuel pumps and I'm not having any luck finding one- why are there two different part numbers- are the two pumps different somehow? I need the recoil side.
Where can I get a pump that will work- does it have to be OEM or can I just use a single outler Mikuni pump with a pulse feed?
Also it appears to be a bear to change the pumps- looks like the radiator has to come out and if so will I have problems refilling and bleeding the cooling system?
thanks for your help!
fuel pump replacement?
Re: fuel pump replacement?
"why are there two different part numbers- are the two pumps different somehow?" I believe the input and or output lines are arranged in different positions. Yes, they are a pain to get too and many have switched over to a single fuel pump with dual outlets.

Re: fuel pump replacement?
they are a pain but you should have to remove anything besides the airbox and carbs... oh yeah and sone skin from your knuckles.... make sure you gas tank vent line is clear... i had that issue a couple of years ago.... the vent line was running out the belly pan by the secondary clutch and packing full of snow.... after a vacuum was created in the fuel tank the weaker of the two pumps quit pumping and my sled started running on one cyclinder
My airbox is held on by one screw, not because Im lazy but because it is less weight!

Re: fuel pump replacement?
I found a used set of OEM pumps for $25 and replaced just the one bad one and now it runs great again.
