I have at times run Yamalube, without problems, but my reasoning is this. We for decades make our living building racing engines for karts and 120 sleds. The engines use no main bearing for the rod to crank. We use a billet rod with simply a hole in the big end, that rides on the crank pin. No bearing of any kind. Sounds primitive, but it works, very well. We will go a entire season if good syn oil is used with no problems and very little, if any, wear. Now if petro based oil is used, the rod is trashed within several weeks. There is no question on the superior lubrication abilities of syn. oil
The 100 hp engines we use in sleds have a very mild life compared to the little race engines, my guess is any decent oil will get you by. Personally seeing how the cost is not that much more, I want the best I can get for my engines.
I used to use a brand called Golden Spectro, which is hard to find. I switched to Amsoil for one very good reason. Amsoil sponsors both the National series in sled racing.
