Had that problem several times it can be a Butch.
First unscrew the fitting above the plunger and soak it with a really good penetrating oil. I use Kroil which is an industrial product or use PB Blaster. I wouldn't waste my time with something like WD 40. Some heat might also help but get all the gas out if using a torch and don't try to melt the carb its only cast.
If that don't get it, try to get the cable out, twist it, cut it whatever till you can get a flat blade down into the slot. Use a screwdriver with a tip as wide as you can in the slot and gently, so you don't tear up the brass rotate the plunger back and forth to loosen it. This is how I got mine out.
Last resort would be to drill down into the plunger, do not go all the way through, start with a small bit and keep getting bigger until it brakes loose.. Do not hit the walls where the plunger fits, its a precision fit

Bob, had the same... after eliminating the kill sw., key sw., ignition coil, spark plugs, wiring from being suspect and checking stator ohm readings at room temperature the only thing left was the stator was breaking down under load. Since you must check resistance at 68 degrees I wonder how else to check the stator as the problem ?Bob Vehring wrote:Thanks, wish I had the answer to my electrical woe's, that got me again about 10 min. into a ride. Pretty sure something is coming undone in the stator after it gets warm. Again would just shut down and no spark. wait 15 min and would run for a min or so.

IDK Chuck, its a problem of dealling with any engine thats not a current race engine. Racers know the answers, parts guys at the dealerships only know the part number.
Right now, I'm using the'86 spec's on my '83. I do not know if those numbers are correct for my year. I also know from reading here their have been several different stators and boxes. I understand the theory of using the correct box to match the stator you use based on voltage output. What I d not know is weather those boxes have differences inside to things like the timing curve. Lord knows the entire sled world has a history of every manufacturer making endless small changes each year based only on trying to make us feel like we need to buy a new sled each year
I really don't know what to do right now. I could just buy parts and chase the elec problem I would like to go with the newer parts so I could get the hand warmer coil also, I do have a light dimming issue at night. but I still ain't happy with the jugs I have. I have two different friends, each has a set of cyl's I can have, both sets need to be redone. If I'm going to do that, I want to drop the port heights and make them bigger. If I jump into that project, I know I'll never get it all done this season.
I stayed home from the races today. I think I'll go out and work on my boat

yo
My dad had an old skidoo Chuck did the same thing, do what i did with my old spark plugs. (this is a very complicated BUT important procedure that I did with my old spark plugs). Take the stator out throw it out the garage door and put a new one on.

hmmm dont know any exciter sites but i havent really looked.... your best bet for sleds that dont have a dedicated website is totallyamaha.com
