STOCK JETTING FOR VMAX 540

Post by TonyV »

Hi first off this is an oustanding site and Im glad I was pointed in this direction :) I had picked up a 1987 VMAX this summer and it was delivered lastweek. The sled is actually in pretty good shape. The best part is the engine is a complete rebuild and was parked my buddy bought it for his kids and when he went to park this thing he was surprised at the snap[ it had ande said it was way to much for his younger kids old sled or not he said thing has some get up and go to much for his kids.

Im in the processs of breaking it in but noticed it loads up when getting on the gas to hard or fast and remembered that I was told on delivery that the jets were bumped up for break in. I was wondering what the standard jetting is for this m,achine?? Its not fouled a single plug so it isnt far off what it should be but it does have the flood out effect when punching the gas to fast but if you roll on the throttle she scoots for an old machine and frankly it dont ride to bad neither well nbetter than In thought it would.

Im working on breaking it in before I hand it over to my son who has been riding a 1988 Phazer deluxe for for the past 3 yuears I figured its time to bump him up and it was either by him a new machine or pick up this Vmax 540 m my brother inlaw has a Yamaha dealrship in West Bend Wisconsin so my son Mason was talking to his uncle Brian about this machine and liked what he heard. Anyways Ide like to checkl the jetting but need to know what there supposed to be or what some of you with experience with these machines recommend .

Im going to have to find a new windshield eventually this one has a small crack and the guages and hand warmers need to be looked aswell. This thing started 1 pull today its unreal but is a bit to pull for my son but if he wants to ride it he has to beable to start it LOL so he learned quick.

Anyways thanks in advance and any ideas or do's and donts anything I should watch for ETC please fill me in. I like this thing so much I am thinking of finding another one to play with. I wouldnt be affraid one bit to hit the trails on this machine. .Thanks.... Tony
