So heres a different question

Post by Bob Vehring »

I don't trail ride much, but I love my '81 SRV, They were never known for good gas mileage, mine is far from stock. The "83 VM appears to use the same 7 gal. tank.
We go to the Eagle river Derby to work with 120 customers, and I was determined to get some trail miles in up north. I only drove from the motel to the track twice, and we finally set out for Three lakes. -9 and just after midnight I heard one cyl go down, knew jetting was safe and the other side quit. Looked at the clock, 47 miles. Never ride a SRV alone
These things any better?

Bob, they are actually a 6.3 gallon tank which, is the biggest contributer to the dismal fuel range. Yamaha's absurdly use of small tanks in many of their sleds during the 80's and early 90's still baffles me...... I have documented on here many times that with a well tuned 540 (mine) that on a long steady crusing trail ride that I see 14-16 mpg !
