SRV (what year?)

Post by Vmxhunter »

Hi guys...I know it's not a Vmax. But I just picked up a SRV for my GF's 15 year old boy. It's in nice shape. Just needs the normal stuff done to it (fuel pump, fuel lines, carbs cleaned..etc..).

But we want to replace the decal on the gas tank door. And we need to know the year of the sled. They guy we bought it from didn't know. And all the build stickers on the tunnel are gone. It's the triple tone decals on the hood and tunnel (red, orange, and light purple). As near as I can tell. It's between a 1987 to 1989 model. The VIN number starts with 81G that's stamped onto the tunnel. And if I remember the 1986 model just had two tone decals (red and orange). I can tell you what year the 81-86 SRV's looked like. And even the 1991. But the 87-89 were almost the same. From what I remember.

Any help guys????
Thanks!!!

BTW....I still have those 86 vmax parts here to get rid of....anyone interested?

are you sure that purple is stock? i was going to say it was an 82 until i saw that purple....

also im not kicking you out my any means but you realize there is a site dedicated to srv's? those guys over there can probably solve any issue in a moments notice... the website is http://www.srv540.com in case you have never found it

there is a simplier more reliable way of finding years but i always forget the website... and i just search for it it and cant find it... if anyone remembers what it is post it here

Hey tyler...Thanks for the info on that web site. And no I never heard of it...I did do a number of searches for SRV's online. But I don't recall seeing that site. I will go check it out.

I do know for a fact it's not a 82. For one, the decals are all wrong. And two, the rear suspension is the pro-action llink found on the vmax also.

I did find a photo of the 82...here it is. And I'll go over to that srv site and see what I can come up with. I knew I could get some info here....Yamaha guys seem to know what's out there!!!

BTW my 86 vmax resto is coming along great!! Just finnished putting the freshly painted skis back on today. And with new NOS ski decals. I even cleared over the decals..in hopes that the clear will keep them from pealing off. That seems to be a common problem with these 540's that are original (SRV's included).

yeah i dont really know much about the srv's the reason i wanted to guess 82 was because that was the only year the srx/ vmax line that had any orange in it at all.... from what i have seen tho the vmax and srv basically carried the same colors for whatever year... eg. the 84 vmax has a bunch of blue and so does the 84 srv....

i had thought about trying to round up some more pictures of others models and add to the years section... but i have a hard enough time finding the ambition/ time to update vmax's let alone branch out to srv's and phazer's, et al.... ill let the srv's up to sacha over at srv540.com :D

Well I checked out the web site. And thanks a bunch!!!! Turns out somebody posted in the forum over there the codes for each year SRV VIN numbers. Turns out "81G" is a 1986 model.

Thanks for the "heads up" on that site!!!
