will a 83 motor plug into 87 electronics??
will a 83 motor plug into 87 electronics??
Hi guys just wanna let you know that this site is awsome. My question is I have an 87 & have just purchased a good 83 motor was wondering if the wiring was the same or do I have to change stator plates?????? thanks!!!!
at first i was going to say no.... but i thought about it for a second or two and i think you can... there shouldnt really be any difference besides the lack of a handwarmer coil in the 83 motor.... i believe you should have 7 wires on your harness and only 5 coming from the 83 motor.. but dont qoute me on that... if the colors match up then that just leaves the two extra handwarmer wires on the harness.... im still not positive it will work tho, so you better wait on a second opinion
My airbox is held on by one screw, not because Im lazy but because it is less weight!

1983 Stator is 6 wire
1984 up has 7 wires the additional being a yellow wire with a black stripe = handwarmer circuit.

The 87 had a little different ignition system ,the CDI box and the stator are different then the earlier ones as they put out more voltage to the secondary coil so at the plugs the 87 put out 28000 volts compared to the earlier ones 18000 volts . So if you use the 83 engine you should also change to the earlier CDI box..
