Fitting kimpex 08-160 shocks to a 87

Post by dave »

These are advertised as fitting 88 to 91 v-max. Figured they'd fit a 87. Nope. On the stock shock is a groove about a inch down from the top where a circlip and a collar are fitted. These parts hold the lower spring seat in place. The kimpex shocks has a larger groove right at the top. So the circlip and collar won't fit. Checked the yamaha parts cataloge for a change in parts for the later year v-max but it doesn't list the v-max past 87. Checked other models and the exciter shock looks like these kimpex deals. Providing the pictures are fairly accurate. Discovered the lower spring seat is different on the other non v-max which don't use the circlip /collar arrangement. So I think these's seats will slide down over the shock and solve my problem, but I don't know. Anyone ever fit a set of these to their sled? Tried to post some pictures but I can't get my @$%# computer to read my memory card. Thanks.

I found the USB cable download is better on the memory card than puilling the card out of the camera. I have crashed the card twice in our computer, but have never damaged it with the card in the camera.

Try the cable if you can't get the card to work in the computer slot.

I know what you mean , I had the same problem, what I did was get a snap ring that fit in the groove and ground it down to fit the spring seat . I did this 8 years ago and worked great with out any problems.

Might try that. But would like to get a look at a spring seat from a phazer or exciter or venture or? They all seem to use the same part#. The only camera I have is in my phone , so no cable.
