Drive Belt

Post by 2quick4u »

Hi guy's,

Been awhile since I had a Vmax. We picked up a 85 and I was wondering what belt we should use on it.

I have been using a MAX1080.

The NOS Dayco parts seem to hold up better than the modern Carlisle parts.

I typically get about a year use from each belt until a novice operator gets stuck and burns a hole in one.

The Daycos were on clearance sale at Harland's last month for $20 each or 2/$35.

From what I can tell, the VMAX is one of the last machines to use this belt.

Dennis Kirk says the MAX1080 also fit '76 to '84 John Deere.
Dennis Kirk says '76 to '84 John Deere used a MAX1078 which is 1/2 inch shorter.

I believe theat Polaris used the 13/8" not the Yamaha 11/4" unless you took a spacer out from behind the spider of the Polaris clutch ?

polaris clutch

I have a polaris clutch on my max with A3 weights and a comet spring. Works well but
it also has the polaris secondary.

nope

You gotta put on a whole new jackshaft and everything just get a 102 clutch and sell
the polaris clutch. You can use a john deere 102 comet clutch and get em cheap.
