I have resleeved my vmax 540 engine to 557ccm. It has compresion at 160-170 lbf/in2(psi). At the first pull it is a litle fire, but do always die out.
I use ngk b9es and br9ev sparkplug, but same with those. I have checked everything exept the fuelpump and magneto. I have used the ohm meter, and everything is correct as recommended in the service manual.
Have new 98 okt fuel, no water, it is in warm garage.
What can be wrong?
Can the compresion be to high for those sparkplugs? Is bosch or champion better? Or can the magnto deliver to litle power?
Will be happy for every idea, im really confused now about how i can get this engine waked up and run.

Maybe the engine is flooded with fuel.
Remove the spark plugs and pull the engine over by hand.
If you get a visible spray of fuel out the spark plug holes along with the air, the engine is flooded.
If you get fuel out only one hole, check the carb inlet valve on that cylinder for being stuck open.
To clear the fuel, turn off the choke (and fuel valves if equipped), open the throttle all the way and spin the engine until the fuel no longer comes out the spark plug holes. I have used an electric drill in some severe cases because my arm got too tired to pull the starter rope after a while.
When the fuel is cleared, reinstall the spark plugs and try to start the engine again.
If you turn on the fuel and/or choke, you risk flooding it again.
If the engine was severely flooded, there is plenty of fuel in the engine and you won't need to use the choke.
Once it starts, you can turn on the fuel.
If it dies after you turn on the fuel valve, one or both of the carb inlet valves is stuck open.
Check for wet plugs to see which cylinder may be flooding.
When I first got my VMAX, both fuel inlet valves were sticking open. By installing fuel filters ahead of the mixing Tees, I was able to trap all the crap from the gas tank before it got to the carbs. I replaced the fuel tank the next year and was able to remove the extra filters. Apparently, something in the original tank was breaking up making plastic sand that would get sucked up and foul the carbs.

Thanks for answer. I have drained the fuel tank, changed filter, checked both carbs and also checked the crank and it has not been twisted.
Have order fuel pump today, and also new seals for the crank. Im afraid that one or two can have a leak, because of the fuel i drained from the crankcase. If this not work i will try to change the magneto. Then i have tryed everything.
i did as you said, and the fuel did came out of one hole, but the same happend again. It was just a litle bit of ignition and not more. I think maybe the fuelpump leak down the vacumline, and perhaps therefore the crank full of fuel with the shut of valve closed.
Has become some kind of nightmare for me..

my 81 srx filled the base with gas once . I left the backend up on a stand and it didint have a fuel shutoff . not good so i put a shut off on it .what i found was icould not get it to start even after pulling it with the plugs out .to try and get the gas out of the base so i plled the pipes off and they were loaded with gas. make sure your pipes arent filled with gas. otherwise your plugs will keep getting soaked.

From my experience there is a hole in one of your fuel pump diaphrams and fuel drains right into the bottom end. Had it happen to me, i would change both fuel pump ( kits) good luck.

Thanks for great information. I have know buyed a new pump, have changed the cranksealings, have also checked the float hight in the carbs and cleaned them. Have also mounted a fuel shut off valve since it was missing.
I will come back later with information when it starts, if it does.
<thank you all so much for helping me out with this>

Hello. Know does my engine run great. I did change both crank sealings, did adjust the timing right, checked everything.
But when im should start it the same happend, so the idea JEFFLANTHIER came with was correct, i did change the fuelpump and then it started at first pull..
So everything is fine know, just waiting for more snow, we do only have about 20 inches.
