I am new to the forum and this forum is very nice and contains a lot of useful information.
Four years ago I got a 1986 Vmax 540. Over the last four years I have had the recoil bottom out three times. Each time I have replaced the recoil spring and this last time I have added extra rope to try and prevent this from happening in the future. I was wondering if any else has had this problem, and if so what they did to correct it.
Thanks WolverineVmax540

Recoil on 86 Vmax
See you on the trails!
I believe you already found the cure ! When I rebuild the recoils I always add another 6-8" this helps to prevent the sudden stop and bottoming of the rope when pulled completely out, this sudden stop, tears up recoils. I'm thinking my rope pulls out at the very least to the curve of the seat which your butt fits into.
