Rear Suspension '83 V-Max

Post by stv1991 »

Took my rear suspension out of my '83 today and it is a mess. Every bearing is bad and the rear crossbar was all chewed up because the bearing stopped turning and it ground literally 2/3 of the way through. It's shot. I have an '81 parts sled I'm going to look tomorrow to see if that cross shaft will fit. I just bought this sled last year and put maybe 50 miles on it with the plan of going through it this fall. Alot of damage considering it only has 1397 actual miles. Cosmetically it's a gem but I need to check everything out after seeing this.

Does anyone know if these cross shafts are still available from Yamaha or if my '81 SRX shaft doesn't work, I would have to look for a used one or have one machined.

Any suggestions??

Try the yamaha factory website at:

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx

press parts catalog, snowmobiles, 1981, srx440
to view the SRX parts.

press parts catalog, snowmobiles, 1983, vmx540
to view the vmax parts.

If the part number is the same, they are interchangable.
If the part number is not the same, you need to do more checking.

Are you talking about # 51 in the picture.
It doesn't have the same part# as any 81 SRX Shafts, so I would say they are not the same.
I think I have an extra one, let me know and we can work something out.

It appears that I was able to order them from Yamaha. Also ordered several bushings in the suspension that were shot. My dealer said that these parts are still available but I'll believe it once I actually have them in my hands!
