My 1990 Vmax was recently all tuned up but I still have that bogging feeling and sound. It also seems like when I give it more throttle it gets weaker and just sounds even different from my other one that I have. I can get some good speed but most of the time it feels and sounds like it is hesitating.
Could this be cause from the "Silencer" being plugged from somthing? My mechanic took it off from the pipes and it ran crappy as they all do when it is off then he put it back on and it seemed to be gone. I got it home and it seemed ok for about 20 minutes then the same thing happen again. Sometimes even if I am climbing a small incline (hill) it would bog out and I would have to get off and feed it gas off and on and with no weight on the sled to get it going. The plugs look good alittle wet.
So again I am asking do you think it could be the "Silencer" has anyone had this same problem happen to them.
This seems to really have us stumped. Again the sound of the pipes don't sound the same as they used to and definitely don't sound the same as my other one which sounds great and the way this one used to sound.
Has anyone ever open the inside of a silencer or know of a way to clean one out in case there is somthing in it causing this fluxuation in back pressure which we think might be the problem here.
Again I am not looking at taking it off as I know it needs to be on for the proper back pressure but has anyone had this same problem we seem to be stumped on this issue
Thanks for the help[/b]

If you take the silencer off and shake it, are there any noises that may indicate something loose inside ? I've heard of guys laying pipes on top of a hot burning barrel to allow nests or even just carbon to burn away. I've seen guys pour strong cleaners into pipes and swish around to loosen crap.

Hopefully "Vmax540" or someone can get us pictures of the inside of these "Silencer" so we can all see how they come together and if we can clean them out. When I took it off and shook it around there was no sound of anything moving at all inside.
I took my silencer off my 87 and put it unto my 90 and it sounded different right away. It seemed to run really good for the most part that I had it out for a quick ride to test. It still hesitated the odd time but no as much as before. It ran up to top speed without bogging or hesitating for most of the time. I still had the odd bog and hesitating at times thou. But seems alot better for sure.
I also notice that one of the rings on the one muffler was broken and a gap of 1'' in the spot where it sits. The gap is usally about 2/16 so maybe this is giving me some problems as well with air lost. I know that piece of the pipe goes into the silencer but maybe it is making that difference.
I also want to dip my "Silencer" into a tank of regular "part cleaning solution" has anyone tried this before and if I let this sit in there under the cleaner for awhile would I get a problem of wrecking somthing inside the silencer? Or would it be ok to do this?

Cleaned out Silencer
Just want to let everyone know that I seem to have my problem fixed (we hope). I took my silencer off and could see that the screens looked clogged which I couldn't see before. So I put it into a part cleaning solution barrel total under for 24 hours so it could soak. I took it out and wiped it down then blew it all down with air to dry the outside and inside off. I blocked one of the pipe holes at a time when blowing the other side down, just to keep all the air going the same way. I then looked back down the exhaust end and you could see the screens on the little port holes on the one end, which before you couldn't see them at all as it just looked like crap sitting in the whole hole. But at least now I know there are little screens in there at the exit side of the silencer.
When I started it up, it smoked like a bugger all white smoke, but sounded better. I took it out for a short ride down the lake and it was running really strong with no hesitating or bogging, just lots of white smoke from the cleaner being burnt off. After about 15 to 20 mins the smoke was gone and it seems to run fine. I will be taking it out for a good ride on Saturday which I will let you know if that resolved the problem fully. But as of now it is flying down the river with no hesitation at all but it is pretty cold up here today.
Thanks for everyone's help, hopefully this is all it was.
