crank needed

Post by tyler440 »

im not completely sure yet but on initial inspection of my motor after my 5 mile ride yesterday i think im going to need a new crank... what does anyone have for me? ide like to find a 540 crank that is in need of nothing with new seals already installed, but i can get them installed if i have to.... ive found it to be very expensive to get bearings replaced so im not incredibly interested in ones with bad bearings, but let me know.... like i said im not completely sure i need a crank but ide be willing to bet....

on a side note i almost couldnt make it to work this morning because we have more snow now than we have all year and it just keeps falling!!! OF COURSE

If you can afford it i would highly reccomend rebuilding the crank you have. A good friend of mine rebuilds them hes a licenced machinist. There has been many cranks worked on at his shop and i have actually helped him do quite a few, i dont do this kinda work on my own though! None have ever come back due to failure and they are usually within 1 thou. all the way accros! Bear in mind manufacturer tolerance is around 3 thouo. so these babys are running true. Mines getting done this year over the summer when i can afford the parts! If anyone near sault ste marie canada needs quality work done on cranks feel free to call RED ROCK MACHINE. 1(705)941-9157
i,m not trying to advertise on here by the way, hes just good at this stuff!!!! Jeff

cool thanks... it seems kinda wild to ship a crank to canada, but if the price is right and the service is good then you never know

crankshafts

Tyler, I have a couple of bottom ends from ' 84 thru '87. The cranks are still in the cases. The bearings feel okay but...I don't suggest building upon them without splitting and doing seals. Actually when I go about it I will likely have the bearings replaced also. This costs bucks, but so do heads and pistons, rebuilds and downtime. This is what will happen if your judgement proves you wrong. .I don't know just what to charge, maybe we should talk. There you go. MJD.
