CDI is the vmax unlike the others

Post by jefflanthier »

I,m looking at possibly purchasing a new CDI depending!!!! The issue i,m having is the aftermarket companies do not seem to have a listing for the 85 VMAX. They list all others but not the vmax. Is this a dealer only cdi or will the standard Yamaha cdi work for this machine. Any comments appreciated especially today were snowed in and the dealer is closed here.
Vmax part# 8u9-85540-10-00
all other listed part # 8v0-85540-20-00
Sleds owned 1979 500cc eltigre 5000, 1981 340cc polaris cutlass, 1989 250 cc skidoo tundra, 1986 463cc skidoo formula mx, 1979 362 cc mirage(citation) 1985 543 cc vmax and a 1987 phazer

As far as I know the CDI is a Yamaha only item. It shows them to be available at $352.47 each for the 8U9 CDI. The 87 Vmax has a different parts # with an 83H prefix (don't know what the difference is). It shows them to be on back order at $294.86 each. You may be able to get them new from Yamaha but I wouldn't bet on it. I've got 8M6, 8R9 and 8U9 ignition systems that I know are good but don't want to get rid of them unless it was worth my while as they are getting very hard to find and NEW prices (if you can get them) are through the roof.
