The original track is
15 inches wide
121 inches long
5/8 inches deep
2.52 inch pitch
"121 by 5/8" is a fairly common take off size.
You can find gently used ones at snowmobile shops, used parts outlets and occasionally on Craigslist.
I put a 1 3/16 deep track on my 86 and I needed to:
1) cut the paddles about 1/4 inch near the windows to get clearance around the heat exchangers,
2) install 8 tooth drivers to get more clearance at the front of the tunnel,
3) remove the outer row of track studs (see photo),
4) remove the upper front idler shaft.

A .750 to 1" track is one of the best add ons you can do for these old school sleds ! I would not go over .750" if you want to stud.

I concur.
My 1 3/16 was more work to install and trim than it was worth. I'm not sure that it is trimmed right even now. I may need to do some more trimming to get all the track noise to go away.
The studs made it harder to steer and less fun to ride. I'm considering removing those to get more track slip and put more fun back in the ride.
The deeper track takes more power to turn therefore I expect the top speed to be less than last year.
A 1 inch. 0.87 inch or 0.75 inch track would have been a better choice.

The only part of the stud that should touch the ground is the carbide.
If the steel part hits the ground, they are too long.

thanks Joe...I think I'm gonna go with the Camoplast Durosport .725 and not stud it. You have to have the "slide" to have fun with this thing..thanks again
