Are the front shocks on all of the V-Max 540's the same? Could I take a set out of an '83 and put them in a later model year like an '88 or '89?
Thanks...........Robb

as far as length they are the same but the diameter at the bottom is different as long as you keep the "foot" with the shock youll be fine

What do you mean by "the foot"? I haven't had my front end apart yet so maybe you can fill me in. Can these later year shocks work on my '83 V-Max?
Thanks again........Robb

yeah the "foot" i dont know what else to call it

... the part the ski attaches to... as long as you have the shock and that part you will be good to go.... see on i havent had all years apart but i know on the 81srx the shock is machined like 1/4 inch smaller on the bottom and therefore requires the 81 "foot"... are your shocks completely straight from top to bottom?

I think...... all from 1986 down use the necked down struts. The 1987 models on up use the straight struts. I have brand new Kimpex struts for the 87's on up, $45.00 shipped in the lower 48.
Thanks

Why do you need new struts ?
Every Used T.S.S. sled I've bought the Knuckles and steel bushing are almost frozen or completely locked up and pivoting on the bolts ! I've bought sleds that the locked up joints won't even allow the springs to return let, alone the struts to work when hitting a bump. The T.S.S sleds have always gotten a bad rap for slop developing when the ungreased steel bushing's freeze up they grind away on the nylon washers ! I have sleds that are 15+ years old that have never had a bushing kit and are almost as tight as new. Just take apart the knuckles apart every 2-3 years and the ski mount every year and grease !

B.T.W. I also, have used struts !
