Mother's Aluminum Polish and a Mother's "Ball". Use with your cordless drill. Works wonders. Cleaned up three John Deere's last year and they turned out VERY nice. You'll be impressed and your hands won't be killing you anymore.

I use the graduated Wet Sanding method (600, 1000, 1500 grit) followed by the Mothers/eagle 1/Autosol polishing compound.

the other "Trick" in order to get the black residue off easier after you rub with the Aluminum polish, dip a clean polishing cloth in a bowl of house-hold baking Flour...it takes the balck off way easier and leaves you to polish the tunnel much easier and without fouling up so many buffing pads/ cloths, or power balls (whatever your preference)
