Just curious if anyone has a cure for myYPZ primary clutch thats on my Vmax Its going to 7500 7600 RPM has anyone ever tried to get one of these clutches to turn 8200 it has 8vo weights in it and the spring is off an exciter i believe! it engages really low 3000 rpm or so. I,m,m tempted to drill or grind holes in the weights to lighten it up but wondering about a spring idea. Any input would be appreciated

According to the VMAX manual, a 0.050 spacer on the end of the spring raises the engagement point 200 RPM. I added a 1/8 inch spacer to mine and it raised the engagement point by 500 RPM.

Shimming the spring is easier than grinding the weights and much easier to undo if the experiment is unsuccessful.

The COMET tuning manual says you can install up to three spacers on the fixed end of the spring.

I,m gonna try shims i think to see if i can find the rpm i need, figure out how thick they all are and buy or make 1 shim that size. I do have a P 85 as well and might use it now that winters over i have lots of time to experiment. Tks guys

Jeff yamaha never made a spring that was stiff enough for the ypz clutches, I think that is why the never used them on the v max,you may have to use another brand that will fit, seems to me skidoo springs are the same size.

does anyone know if the 1981 srx spring will fit in the ypz clutch, it almost looks like the same clutch in the microfiche online.
