fuel shut off

Wondering if it's common for the 540 to flood like you wouldn't believe if the fuel shut off isn't used when the sled sits for any length of time. Ive owned other sleds that had shut offs but I really only used them when the sled was being trailered.

most sleds will flood without the fuel shutoff especially when the carbs become worn. If your bottom end keeps filling up with gas i would change the fuel pump kit if you havent already done that.

The sled runs good but I'll try rebuilding the pumps. Probaly should be done regardless. Wondering what you mean "when the carbs become worn" How would this cause the fuel to be "siphoned" into the engine?

The floats can stick a bit, the holes in the float clog up or wear and float hangs up on the pins. The needle and seat wears leaving a ridge on the needle can cause a leak. Also if something lets go inside the motor it can blow out the impulse line and damage the diaphram in the fuel pump, i had this happen last year to mine. The engine was full of gas i mean tons and it just kept gravity draining from the tank through the hole in the fuel pump diaphram and down the impulse line into the bottom of the engine.

Thanks. I had a bit of a backfire this past fall. Didn't think anything of it because it started and ran fine. Anyway I'll rebuild the pumps and take it from there. Thanks.
