I may have the project you are looking for I have a 1986 yamaha v max 540 it is definetlt a project I bought this sled 2 years ago with the engine unfinished all I had to do is put the top end on and put it back in the chassis I did that ran great for a day or so spit a end seal pto side guy who I bought it from put it togather wrong I fixed it never ran well after that it had a fairly fresh crank in it,cylinders are bored .25mm out tight bore and new when I bought it wiseco pistons although one side will need rings,chassis wise it;s pretty nice seats good,hood,track ski's this sled will need work let me know and I will send you pics and I am located in saint croix falls wisconsin

I have an 87 Vmax 540. Put over 400 in new parts including OEM skis. Carb completely rebuilt. Ran like a champ for about 3 miles. Now compression is low. Machanic is fairly certain that it is the crank seals only. My wife put the end to the money supply for this sled. It has new rear axle with new barings and lots more. I have a list of all the work the machanic did prior to the engine quiting.
