Checked out a for sale add for a 1983 Vmax. I found it was a 1984 with all the decals removed except the tunnel decals. The 14yr old was given it by his uncle and had sat for 5+ years. The odometer shows 1400 miles which I believe to be actual considering the it's condition. The tunnel and side panels are very, nice, original windshield minus the edge trim, track and snow flap almost like new ! The clutch is O.E.M. and very tight and he had the original owners maual and a factory service manual ! The gas tank cover and seat show alot of exposure. The engine bay looked like the day it came off the showroom with how everything was in place and showed no signs of being hacked up. He said he tried to start it and it locked up so, I offered him $200.00 and he said 250.00 and we made a deal. Got her home and knowing the carbs had to come off I promptly pulled them only to find dog food in the carb bodies, airbox and after shinning a flash lite in the intakes I saw dog food under the piston skirts, on top of them and down in the crank case...... hence OLD ROY ! I found good news after pulling the engine I discovered the cylinders are like new with no porting, the pistons are O.E.M., The crank has no rust or Old Roy after flushing with air and kerosene and the head has no detonation signs ! Looks like the mice filled the air box and when he tried to start her up Old Roy locked her up ! Which was a blessing because the carb jets were all pluged up !
