Carb question

I bought a set of carbs for an '83 Vmax on ebay. My question is that they both have a large brass fitting sticking out of the carb body. My carbs on the sled now do not. They look like some sort of electrical switch. Anyone know what these are for?

Those carbs are off an Exciter 570.

the electrical connection is for the T.O.R.S. system it doesnt need to e connected... although on the vmax i believe they are on the opposite side of the carb on 86+ sleds

Those pictures are actually backwards, I rotated them when I resized them.
So these are carbs off of a newer Vmax? Can I use them on my '83? Is the jetting correct for my '83?

from what i remember of chucks carbs the TORS is in the opposite side of the carb, so i agree that those may be off of an exciter or something similar, i suppose the will work fine as long as they are 38mm.... just make sure the jets that are in them are the same as what the 540 calls for... Especially make sure the cut out on the slide faces the airbox.... or you will spend a season and a half trying to figure out with your sled is hard starting and wont idle... not that i have ever done that or anything

as far as i know the 83 engine is the same as every other 540 engine.... just along the years yamaha found better ways to jet the carbs to make them run better/ more reliable....

I may have missunderstood what you ment by "brass fittings".
When you say "brass fitting" are you reffering to the one in the pic? If so and they don't have two large brass hose fittings near the choke plunger inlet they are Vmax 540 carbs and those "fittings" you're talking about are the TORS switches as others have said. If they have the brass hose fittings near the choke plungers they are Ex570 carbs. There are #'s stamped into the engine side of the carbs just below the inlet for the choke plunger. They will have a 3 digit prefix followed but 00L and 00R. The prefix designates the model year and the 00L/00R is for right and left. Cross the prefix digits with the "what year is your Vmax" article in the "Article Index" and you will have the year max they came off of.
