What is considered the best year Vmax? I'd really like get one of these vintage 540s but would like one that has all the bugs worked out by Yamaha, I know usually there are many clutch and carb updates after the first year of production. So what year did the 540 peak and changes finally stop?

Most of the carb., clutching, oil pump ect... updates were done to the 85 and up right from the Factory. The 86 models on up had the nicer/softer seat !
