Wow, talk about pieces ! I have had Wiesco's in my 86 for well over 10 years without a problem.

Re: blew up the 81 srx
I have had several issues in my life, mostly on my SRV (iron bore) where with Wisco's the skirt was worn and actuly colasped some going out of round. This can put a real load on the rings because the pistons rock.
Maybe this is an issue maybe not, just passing on what I have seen

Keith, Which side failed ? Seems like the Mag side mixture is fairly safe and the PTO is a little on the lean side. http://www.smellofdeath.com/lloydy/pist ... _guide.htm
Show us some pictures of the piston and hopefully the cylinder is ok ?

'' trying to catch a appex ''. DUDE, COM,ON. YOU HURT YOUR SLED FOR NO REASON. YOU HAD NO CHANCE OF CATCHING THAT SLED. I DON,T CARE HOW FAST YOUR 81 WAS. 3:16 (yammie tony)

the clutch side failed. it didn't seized up it just the piston broke in side and yeah i think the cylinders are ok hoping just need honing i will find out when i get a clutch puller. and be able clutch off and the motor out of the sled and put it on the work bench. i got an extra sets of pistons and cylinders for it. but soon as i get the motor out i will take pic of the broken piston.Vmax540 wrote:Keith, Which side failed ? i did mix oil in the tank before i took it out on the lake so it wouldn't blow up because the guy i got it off of like 5 years ago said he blew it up on the lake doing the same thing as i was that was running it hard but it wasn't the oil that did this cuss it was getting allot of oil.
i am thinking piston clearance?
so i will machine them to the next size.

There is a reason the piston broke. You better check the piston to wall clearance, you may have a cylinder that has to much clearance. Some time the intake port gets hammered and you may need to have the clyinder either bored or renickilseled.. Just a thought..

Re: blew up the 81 srx. new pictures added
I can see that your cylinders have been sleeved.
You need to check the depth of the o-ring groove that seals the head down at the cylinder.
I have seen sleeved cylinders that have a deeper groove than what a stock chrome bore cylinder would have. The depth of the groove should be the same for both inner and outer o-rings.
If that is the case the o-ring will not have the proper squish and will almost certianly leak under compression.
I have stock cylinders I can measure if needed for spec and have a line on a place that can get thicker o-rings if needed.
I've seen this on 439cc SRX and 540 Vmax engines too.
You need to be sure now before it goes together or you will be taking it apart again.
Looks good otherwise.
