Tony for a stock .525 track for trail riding you can use the older .625 to .700 studs if you can find them if not you'll have to settle for .750 !

yeah... i think mine has 1 studs down the center and a little over an inch on the outsides... thats with a taller track tho, if you put that long of studs in a 1/2" track they will rip out

For a good rule of thumb, studs that are 3/8" above the track are about all you need. I have found that if you have the proper amount of studs, no matter the length, you will not have any rip out. Most studs rip out because of spinning, not necessarly because of the length. If you stud properly you will have few pull outs if any.
ON the camoplast 9811 (.540"), we have run 1.125 studs with fantastic results and never a pull out.
If you want even better results, get the backer plates with the angle on them. It supports the stud a great deal more.

I would tend to agree with Speednut but it all depends on the surface you pushing those studs into.
Alot of differance between a smooth clean ice track, chewed up track with lots of chop on top and a snow trail, hard or soft.

Tony.. Yamaha stated in there Performance Guide for the Vmax 540 nothing longer then 11/16 of an inch. No matter what size you use don't forget to install tunnel protectors as there isn't much room under there. I use to run the 11/16 and with my fat a_ _ on there if you hit a good size bump they would hit the protectors. Good luck!!

When I did ice oval raceing. I had a 1981 SS440. I had replaced the stock track with a new camoplast. With 3/4 lug. I ran .875 ice picks (rule was no higher than 3/8in above lugs). Never had an issue with pull out. But, the HP on a stock SS440 is way lower than a Vmax......
