Last year i had a lean condition on my v-max where the plug was a real light brown, where they are usually a chocolate brown. I went to pull my carbs off this season and the side i think it was lean on the rubber intake boot was loose and i think maybe totally off last year. Would this cause a lean condtion??? What else could cause it?? It was bogging last year on the bottom end but it was warm out and I had a bad belt on, and the clutch had not been serviced from the year before.

"rubber intake boot was loose" = a cracked or loose carb flange have taken down a good # of cylinders.

It isnt the rubber boot that connects the jug to the carbs, it was lose from the carbs to the airbox but the other one wasnt so i thought maybe it was sucking cold air through the right cylinder and leaning it out a bit but wasnt sure if thats enough to do it because guys run with no airbox often.

yeah any change in airflow is going to change jetting... that would most likely make it lean, also that would explain a change for no reason
