bottom end maintainance

I got my bottom end pulled apart, to replace the seals. Theres an oil seal behind the water pump gear on the crank shaft I take it guys dont replace those??

the crank case seal you mean? yeah we replace those, youll probably have to take it somewhere and have it done unless you have a press, that gear is an interference fit

SOmeone told me that you just heat it up and it comes out?? Or will that damage the tempered steal?

mmm im not sure about the temper, but if that did work you still have to get it back on and heat probably would be risky with that new rubber seal

Get the gear off any way you can.Heat it a little around the shaft would be fine. To get it back on set it on a light bulb to heat up and it will drop on. Or in a oven. I have done this many times over the last 25 years.

hmm a light bulb is enough heat to get it back on? thats cool maybe next time i do it ill try that instead of taking it somewhere

I use a old electric hot plate and a skilt to heat up bearings to install on 4 stroke crank case's. If you take the crank and get it cold and the bearing hot they will slip right on!
