Chuck, take this for what its worth. All my life I have had steel trailers 8x10 carry 3 sleds with the back one on tail first. Did it like this forever. two years ago I bought my first alum trailer. I won't mention the brand but one of the top 3 brands. It was 2 years old when I bought it.
With in a year broke both main frame rails behind the rear axle. Welded and braced it.This season, Regan was towing back from a race, suddenly the tongue pulled out from the pivot point where it attaches. The tongue is steel. When we got it home and looked, the whole area of the alum frame, where the steel tongue mounts was rotted away, the alum had become a crunchy white powder, worse then any steel/rust problem I have ever had
