Are you holding the throttle W.O. and pulling the cable at the same time ?

I tried it with the throttle w.o and closed it seems that with the adjuster turn all the way out i can pull the cable back another 1/4 to bring the cable where it belongs like the picture in the man. shows but their is no more adjust. the book says pull the cable all the way out line the end of adj. with the spot onthe cable ferrule . no go maybe the cableis stretched. the reason im trying to adjust it s iwas going thru a lot of oil my cable was pulled out and hung up on the end of adjuster and it had the rubber booty pulled over it so i didnt notice it right away ithink i did this pulling the air box at 1 time its still smokes more than i think it should even after warmed up so i attempted to adjust the cable . If the cable was stretched wouldnt it burn less oil?
