Guys,

Justin has been working on this 82 SRX 500 drag sled for about year. Many have helped him get the parts he needed to build it. See the attached photos. Get ready to see some trophy's.

we are all waiting on more details im sure....

This sled was built specificly for Mod Stock racing, the circuit we run in is 1982 and older . The rules state that your sled must be matching numbers to be legal for mod stock. example 81 srx with 82 srx motor is not leagal to race. I did run a full mod 77 srx and a 81 srx full mod sleds that looked much like this. The class went from 440 mod stock to 500 mod stock a few years ago, we were on top until guys started boring rotax 454 's to 500cc (not legal ) but they did it anyway. they make nearly 130 hp. then on top of that they would stuff them into RV chassis and build clone blizzards and sno pros now we are giving up weight and hp. . I used pieces and part from all of the years 81-83 to build this sled,
The motor is fully ported and the head has been competely reshaped By Don Pizor out of Ohio it runs Dealughter Built 540 pipes and 48mm clarbs 121 Whal track and skid hand made seat and hood the sled weighs a touch over 300 lbs
We have not had it out yet the ice is bad and I just got the engine back this week.but we are looking for good times my 81 mod runs 5.6 -5.7 sec in 500' My Vmax mod has best run of 5.4 this motor is better than both of the others we are shooting for 5.4-5.3 in 500' on ice. IMHO it will look better winning races than collecting dust.

Pardon my ignorance of SRX design, but...

Is that a 1 pint gas tank?
Where do the water hoses go?
Where is the oil tank?
Is the radiator missing or relocated?
Is it supposed to sit that low?
Is that seat a LOT lighter and harder than stock?
Those pipes look a LOT shorter than my 540 pipes. What is the operating RPM of that engine?
Is that a Yamaha or Polaris clutch instead of a comet clutch?
Is the airbox missing for tuning or weight reduction?

As i posted before the sled is built for racing only,
The sled uses a seperate cooling system that pumps out the hot water after each run, 5 hp is gained by removing the oil pump water pump and tach drive. It will make 3 500' WFO passes and then need fuel filled again. 0-95 mph in 5 seconds at 10'000 rpm

those were my next questions joe hahahaha... im mainly curious about those 1/2" lines that run up there near the pipes and the clutching... i see with the requirements of your class why you built an 82 like that, i figured that would be the reason..... looks freaking awesome btw!!

Thanks alot guys, I was worried a little about how some yamaha guys might not understand about why i used a 82 , To put it simply the SRX 440 is not fast enough to run with the ROTAX 454 bored to 500 , To have a better shot a winning this is the only road to take with a YAMAHA, but Jon assured me that is would be ok. We have yet to see if it works it looks good on paper but it has to be applied to the race track now.

I used the 540, I had one with a blank vin gear box cover, I did not want to cut up the orginal rt-499 gearbox housing in case someone needs it for their resoration.
Our rules state any internal mods allowed , outward look must be original, so I could not use a 540 head or have billet ones made also I could not grind the numbers off a 540 jug and sleeve it down because the numbers must be seen on jug.
