Typical Mid-Season top end rebuild

well just my luck.... on our 30 or so mile ride lastnight i noticed my motor was really flay from 3/4 throttle on up.... thought maybe my clutching went south all in the sudden.... got home and got to looking... low and behold both of my base gaskets were blown out..... hmmm how nice!!.... now rewind... lastime i rode i parked on a steep hill for probably 15mins and the carbs drained into the crankcase... flooded the hell out of the motor and i had to fight to get it to run again.... the one time when we stopped lastnight i noticed that it didnt want to idle down (was idling at 3000) ive seen this happen to me before and usually a quick blip of the throttle makes it idle down.... that didnt work this time but we didnt sit long enough for me to think much more.... then when i couldnt out torque a phaser i got suspicious.... good thing visibilty sucked lastnight and i didnt get it wound out like usual or else i might be completley rebuilding a motor this weekend...
after i realized the problem chuck and i had the topend off in about 35mins.... ive got the junk gasket scraped off the jugs and started on the crankcase.... once i get that scraped it should be back together in a hour or so.... (im getting good at this crap

i only undid the nuts on the head that way i could pull the both jugs and the head off at the same time and keep the integirty of my head seals... (they are a pain and ive had problems with them before).... i plan on using the same rings as both cylinders still had over 120lbs of compression maybe 130+ (its hard to tell with our gauge since it is not holding the peak anymore)
fyi the gasket that blew was a cometic that was maybe too old to be using to begin with... also it was me trying start it with a bottomend full of gas that blew the gaskets.... this time around we are going to try the winderosa gaskets becuase we dont have any OEM ones on the shelf... also fyi we dont use anything but OEM rubber head rings, after my aftermarket ones never sealed and toasted the cylinders....
look on the birghtside tho, at least i got to inspect my top end very well, everything looks great!
