cdi question

was out on the lake test ridding my 81 project ran good but it stutters up top kinda sounds like a four stroke dirt bike when you hit the rev limiter.and i can only pull 7500 on the tach.is this a symtom of running a 81 srx cdi box with a 86 vmax power plant because i think thats my set up?any ideasthanks john
