I was wondering if anyone would have a charge coil for an 84-87 vmax,it is the one for the handle bar warmers. The part # is 8X6-85521-10-00,it is the top one on the side that has two coils on top of one in other in the stator. If so please PM me with a price . Thanks

What happened to the original one?

My lighting coil went out a couple months ago. I took the stator out and found the wire had broken off the coil. I unwound the coil and found that it had 40 feet of #18 wire and the middle third had burned the insulation off the copper. The wire had dents in it and it looked like a failure waiting to happen. I wrapped the core with Scotch 27 electrical tape and rewound new wire on the old core. Once the new wire was in place, I wrapped it with another layer of Scotch 27 electrical tape.

The tape is woven glass with a thermosetting adhesive. It gets hard as epoxy once it gets warm.

I tested the lights last night and they worked fine.

It took about a half hour to wind the coil.

The coil burned out ,I tried to unwrap it but it just all fell apart ,no way to tell how long it was, I guess I could keep wraping until I get the right OHM reading. Do you know where to buy that kind of wire??

Here is the first item I found on a search. The price is more than we normally pay because it is much more rugged than we use. It will get you started on a search though.

Note that heavier wire is available than listed on the catalog page.
