81 SRX questions
Hey guys just a few things im stuck with, not sure if i have the right fly wheel magneto on my srx the serial # on front plate says F 170-58 i think. ALso i have the two crank vents on the 540 bottom end i used for the fuel pump, should i plug one hole or splice two lines to the one fuel pump?? And i have A-1,A-2 and A-3 weights for the clutch and a silver spring which is best to use??
Re: 81 SRX questions
Chris, can not tell by that #F 170-58 . Plug one hole do, not connect the two. "i have A-1,A-2 and A-3 weights for the clutch and a silver spring which is best to use??" Try them all chances are you'll end up with the A-3's ?

Plug that extra hole well and check it often. I put the extra hole in the case of my SRV when racing for slide lube, plugged it off later and forgot about it, many years later burnt a piston, thought it must have got to cold out on me, replaced it and burnt another one next ride, then I checked, plug had come out

THis isnt going to be a trail sled anyway, i just want it to go out at for 20 minute rides here and there. Could i just plug the hole having a piece of gas line with a bolt stuck in it with clamps on it??

Sure, I'd also use some Silicone, then just keep an eye on it so the hose doesn't get hard over time

Ok the A-3's would be the best weight for what i have in the shop, but what would be the best overall??? I have a yellow polaris spring that is real stiff, i have it on my vmax and i think it engaged at around 5 grand?? Does anyone have one and could be able to tell me where it would engage? I have a silver spring maybe i should just stick with that...Or maybe i could put washers in the with the spring??

Re: 81 SRX questions
A hard launch is completely different then a quick or fast speed. Today we have fancy data systems to test with back in the 80's all we had was a radar gun. whatever you have, test runs and watching your tach will be the answer.
A hard launch is easy to get by either using a stronger spring, shims, or notching the arms. It looks and feels impressive to leave hard. BUT, it also changes the shift caricteristics of the clutching through out the entire range. If your target RPM is say, 7800 but the stiffer spring now changes that if you haven't also changed arms, now maybe your only getting 7500, you could easily be of 5-6 or more HP from peak. You will be slower over all
We would easily change clutching all day long to stay on top of it Clutching changes all the time based on the surface your on.
