SRX 440 project

Post by chrisrider63 »

Ok i came across one of the vintagesled forums today from last january that talked about the update SRX 440 stator and Ignition system. How do i know if i have this stator plate that was the old and better one? What other componnents do i check to have the fast SRX 81 setup?? Also justin from the site informed me that the bottom end from the 81,81 SRX is the same as the v-max bottom end. (volume and composition) Also where do i get pistons for the SRX 440 81.

If you have the old CDI unit it will say TIA01-33/Hitachi I dont know if it also says #8K4 the older unit has a 3 pronger connector the magneto Flywheel says F170-57
The stator #TRIZ 24B Hitachi

Uppdated (Same as SRX 500) Unit Magneto Flywheel # F170-58 (Four Plunger Connector) CDI Unit TIA01-38 #8R9 Four plunger connector. Stator #TRIZ 50 Hitachi
Or S85116B Toshiba. There were an Kit in the Improvement Service Bullentin for the 440 With the new 4 Pronger Connected CDI Unit to fit the 3 Pronger connection Magneto flywheel That also required to install some new electrical wires.

The Crankcases are different in both ends the Vmax case are a little Longer than the 440 Case because of the Bigger Bearings that the Vmax Crank Carries. Vmax Cranck will not fit in the SRX 440 crankcase But some say that you can use the SRX 440 Cyls and pistons on the Vmax motor if that was your intend. But i don't know if you will make the same horsepower anymore then. Because the Bigger Internal mass you will have with the vmax bottom end.

Justin that has the SRX 500 told me that the bottom ends for the SRX 440, 500 and vmax 540 are all the same. My friend had a SRX 440 with a 540 bottom end and i think it worked well.

Yes. They have the same Stroke 64mm. But they have different Bearings on the Crank. If you take a look in both end of their Cases They have differences to each other
They don't share the same seals and the Cases will not fit from each other. For example you can't take an upper case of the SRX500 And put it on the Lower case of the Vmax. Same with the SRX440. Maybe the Connecting Rods are interchangable for them.

I can be wrong. But i have them all and i have looked at them. But if you doubt it i will go and take some pics of them and post them to you.

There were a few SRX 500 sleds here in SWEDEN that put the 540 Top End on the 500 Bottom end after running out of Pistons and Rings. But they got dissapointed in loss of power. That getting slower but after some porting of the 540 Jugs to nearly 500 specs they started to move again
