clutch help on a '83 vmax540

Post by marvs540 »

How do you know when your clutch needs rebuilt or replaced? Also how do you tell what type of clutch it is, my sled has some modifications don't know if its original or not. Guy I got it from says he thinks it was raced before he bought it. Thanks love the forum learning alot about sleds love my vmax.

hi if you take the clutch side, side cover off or undo it enough to see the face of the clutch it will say the brand name and model number of the clutch

1st mark the face plate and the moveable sheve to make sure you reassenble them the same way ! Loosen the 6 bolts holding the clutch cover then take the center bolt out (its under pressure from the spring). Next check the rollers, weights and pins for flat spots and excessive wear. If all looks good give everything a Good cleaning before putting back together !
