Here is the first item I found on a search. The price is more than we normally pay because it is much more rugged than we use. It will get you started on a search though. http://mouser.com/Search/Refine.aspx?N=254620+4294635157+4293987580&Keyword=solid+wire&FS=True http://www.belden.com/pdfs...

What happened to the original one? My lighting coil went out a couple months ago. I took the stator out and found the wire had broken off the coil. I unwound the coil and found that it had 40 feet of #18 wire and the middle third had burned the insulation off the copper. The wire had dents in it and...

We did not make it out this weekend. The snow depth dropped from 70 to 43 inches this week. The 60+ degree days take a huge toll on the snow level when it stops refreezing at night. http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/nwcc/sntl-data0000.jsp?site=1068&days=7&state=WA It looks like it was an average ...

If I recall correctly, a clutch spinning at a fixed RPM generates the same force regardless of the spring installed or if the spring is binding. The grip force on the belt is the weight force minus the spring force. As the RPM rises, the weight force increases to push the clutch against the belt. As...

So if I read this correctly... Yamaha changes spring preload (shims on the primary and reindexing the secondary) and Polaris changes primary weights. to allow the engine to rev up to the same operating RPM at higher altitude. I think it would be cool to develop a way of adjusting the clutch characte...

The Polaris manual indicates a clutch weight change as elevation changes. I don't recall seeing this before. Sea level to 3000 feet calls for a 60 gram weight. 3000 to 6000 feet calls for a 58 gram weight. 6000 to 9000 feet calls for a 56 gram weight. 9000 to 12000 feet calls for a 54 gram weight. M...

They recommended 'high temp red RTV sealant'.

I applied it as recommended and it worked great. No more leak.

Clutch spring shim recommendations and warnings

Why does Comet recommend (and provide) clutch spring shims whereas Polaris specifically warns against using them? My Comet clutch came with three shims and I needed two of them to get the engagement right. I was looking in a Polaris manual yesterday and it warned that shimming the spring would cause...

Thanks for the reply Bob. Both Polaris are 1997s with SLP exhaust kits and aftermarket reed valves. Compression ratio is stock. We are running premium pump E10 fuel. The 700 has SLP trail porting. The sleds run fine through the entire throttle range at 3000 feet. They lose the WOT capability at abou...

Elevation and Bogging issues

The snow level was 4000 feet Thursday night. Sawmill Ridge got 5 inches of new snow overnight. We took Friday off from work and parked at 2400 feet elevation near the Pyramid Creek SnoPark. The Polaris snowmobiles did not like the warm temperature (40 F) and high elevation. Both of them developed a ...

Got out on the sleds again today. One group of three people spent the night in the motorhome at the trail head. The other group of three got up at 6 am. left at 7 am and arrived at 9:30 am. We went up to Stampede pass and visited the weather station. The snow was about a foot below the top of the do...
