I agree with you guys, I have never heard of a oil inj. system failing I ask the question regarding injecting the oil back further in the system. I'll put some more depth in my question. On my SRV I like to keep it on the edge. Getting 1200-1250 EGT on the top end is an easy thing to do. What was mo...

Do any other sleds have the system used on the ( at least) "83, where the oil is injected before the carbs? I have two groups of sleds, some older ones that are completely stock and I have grown to trust the factory set up. I also have a couple hot rods, the V Max will join this group.. They ha...

Thanks Jeff. The sled I bought just had the engine done by a "pro", yes I've heard that before  The owner could not get it to start, simply opening the cap on the gas tank told that story. I cleaned the carbs, flushed the tank, and it fired right up. After idling for about two min. I ...

Jeff So far I haven't really worked on this engine at all, and know little about it .I have read many of the "stories" but been around long enough to know mostly the are just stories  I do have a friend who today mostly builds Ski Doo and Pol. engines but years ago raced these extensi...

So heres a different question

I don't trail ride much, but I love my '81 SRV, They were never known for good gas mileage, mine is far from stock. The "83 VM appears to use the same 7 gal. tank. We go to the Eagle river Derby to work with 120 customers, and I was determined to get some trail miles in up north. I only drove f...

Back then so few people new about the Big Blue Bottle 8) and the heat exchanger kept the bottle temp stable. You did learn not to go off jumps while sitting on the seat, damn that hurt.. So, anyplace these up date port spec's are printed? haven't decided what to do to the engine yet, still trying to...

Not sure what "back together" means, if it means you put new pistons and/or rings in it, it might just need to have the rings wear in and seal up. Thats assuming everything was done right. I agree that 40/1 is fine and Yamalube is also fine for a trail sled Oil inj. is ok for my wifes crus...

Only have a min before its off to the track for the week end but hope this will help understanding. Clutching and gearing are related, but not the same thing. The clutches will be set up to give you the rpm you want the engine to run at as it goes from its shift out point on up. That rpm range you (...

VooDoo Max

Well no one is using this sections, time to fire up some interest. My project started as someone elses nightmare, never got it out last year. Now thats its been sitting in the way all summer I decided it was time to start. After really looking hard, it was clear she's a little to rough for a total r...

All my performance sleds get an EGT gauge, its so much cheaper then buying cyl. for every mistake  Factory jetting is usually pretty rich so it covers most situations the avg. sled will run in to. It keeps things safe, which is fine for most riders. I like a crisp engine and I will jet for the ...

I feed twin 39.5 carbs on a much modified 535 fan (SRV) engine with no problem with a single, dual outlet Mic. pump. But as Tyler said be sure the other pulse line is plugged very well, meaning, not a plastic line that can crack off in a year or so, or a bolt that cant fall out

Jeff, I haven't tried to sort out the numbers yet. Next week I'll take two of my 617's out to the track to compare porting timing notes on them with Steve Decker, he's the expert, not me, but after that I'll tear them apart and have the piston in hand, haven't looked yet but if pin size is the only ...
