Thanks everyone for your help. Rebuilding my Vmax will have to be put on hold for a while because I leave to go back to college tomorrow. Hopefully when I get back in Feb. for spring break I can get it fixed and back together. Maybe even get it out on the trails for a test ride. Thanks again. I will...

To check the compression my Dad held is hand over the sparkplug holes and had me pull the cord. I pulled the starter rope immediately to see if the motor was frozen. It pulled but it was harder than usual. It felt the same way to me as it did four years ago when I had a piston go the first time. We ...

No Compression on 1986 Vmax
Today I got my Vmax up to 60mph and then it ran out of gas. I put more gas in it and when I went to fire it up I found I had no compression in the right cyclinder. I plan on taking it apart tomorrow to see how much of the piston is damaged. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem an...

Finally got out on the trails yesterday. The Vmax ran perfect, as good or better than my buddy's Arctic Cat 700 Crossfire. The trail from Sandusky to Deckerville was pretty bumpy because it has not been groomed yet. The trail from Deckerville goint to the east was great!! :!: On our way back we ran ...

Winter Strom in Thumb of Michigan
For anyone in the Thumb area of Michigan or planning a trip over here we have 12 inches or plus :D . Do not know what trails look like because the report has not been updated yet and I have not finished getting my sleds running to hit the trails yet :( . So snow amounts are just what I have at my ho...

Mirrors
I was just wondering if anyone has ever put mirrors on a 540 before for trail riding purposes.
Thanks,

Recoil on 86 Vmax
I am new to the forum and this forum is very nice and contains a lot of useful information. Four years ago I got a 1986 Vmax 540. Over the last four years I have had the recoil bottom out three times. Each time I have replaced the recoil spring and this last time I have added extra rope to try and p...
