First of all thanks for the response :D :D This is what i've found without disassembling. I know its not shifting it wants to over rev at 40 mph(tach cable is broke so dont know exact rpms) it used to run wot at 85mph. Ran both clutches in and out by hand primary a little sticky so I lightly lubrica...

I have a 83 vmax and it wont shift the belt is worn about .125" narrower then a new belt. Could that be the reason the secondary clutch is not opening up all the way but when I put a new belt on it seems to be alright and also it seems to go through belts pretty quick the belt that is currently...

what indications are there or what can I check for on my '83 vmax 540 primary clutch to let me know it needs rebuilt or replaced before it destroys itself semi new to the snow scene. any help or advice would greatly be appreciated thank you.

I need to rebuild my clutch and need to know what to look for and replace. My local dealer told me the old vmaxes were notorious for destroying clutches any help would greatly be appreciated. I've worked on and rebuilt atvs and dirtbikes for years just not familiar with snowmobile clutches. thanks.

How do you know when your clutch needs rebuilt or replaced? Also how do you tell what type of clutch it is, my sled has some modifications don't know if its original or not. Guy I got it from says he thinks it was raced before he bought it. Thanks love the forum learning alot about sleds love my vmax.
