Wanted: late 80's Vmax leathers

I know this is a big time long shot. But I'd love to find a set of Yamaha Vmax leathers. Would like a set that's not all torn up ( a jacket or set that needs minor repairs might be OK, depends on how bad). And in Size XL. I'm really looking for a set that's intended to match the 86 or 87 model years...

headlight wire harness quick-disconect?? (86 Vmax)

OK guys..I just finnished up soldering the wires from the main wire harness (they were all cracked!!) going to my headlight quick-disconect on my 86 Vmax. Now, ever since I bought the sled, I don't think that quick-disconect by the hood hinge going to the hood/headlight was in the correct spot. Can ...

Re: Vintage Ride

Sorry I'm a little late on this thread!!! But ya, I know what your saying about the Interceptor 550. I owned 3 of them. Sold my last one about 1 1/2 years ago. man that sled was wicked!! I could be driving at 40mph. And mash the throttle wide open, and have no issue what-so-ever with lifting the ski...

Re: Of all the stupid things....

I don't think you'll have much to worry about. I knew alot of guys that took the stock tracks on there exciters and turned them around for ice oval racing. They said it gave them a better bite.

Re: STUDS FOR THE VMAX 540 3:16

When I did ice oval raceing. I had a 1981 SS440. I had replaced the stock track with a new camoplast. With 3/4 lug. I ran .875 ice picks (rule was no higher than 3/8in above lugs). Never had an issue with pull out. But, the HP on a stock SS440 is way lower than a Vmax...... http://s1.postimage.org/h...

Re: mid range bogg/miss..

On most of my old sleds. One thing I allways do is remove the secondary clutch. Have it taken apart and cleaned. And replace any worn parts. Same goes for the primary. If it's not shifting corecctly. Bogging can happen. A clutch or clutches that are not shifting properly will put incorect load on th...

Re: 1987 with 1 mile

Isn't there supposed to be a chrome "T.S.SUSPENSION" on each of the black front strut covers? Or was that omitted in the 87 model year?

Re: my 86 almost done

I agree on the knuckles, I grease mine every year and have never had any problems, the TSS was one of the best suspensions back then I think it was one of those things that worked so good that people didn't even think much about them, and the magazines were to busy talking about Polaris that Yamaha...

Re: rebuilding my 81 srx

Just wondering...What's up with the one SRX with the red stripes? I don't ever recall seeing one with those graphics. The ones I allways seen had the white stripes. Is that custom? Or a Canadian model? Just never seen one like that before. It looks cool!

my 86 allmost done

Hey guys...Just some new photos of my 86 here. I got a correct hood on her now (last winter I had a 81 SRX hood, with the decals removed). I just got the sled put back together. Had to replace that oil seal by the tach cable (AGAIN!!!). And a new oil injection cable. And I just put 2 coats of wax on...

Re: seat protection

Well I looked at those seats today (I washed and wiped on that Armor All on Sunday). I did my sled. And the SRV the boy rides. And both seats look great!! And they are NOT slippery!!! So, this stuff looks like a winner. The only question now is. How often am I going to have to re-apply it each year....

Re: seat protection

Well I found a different Armor All formula when I was at Fleet Farm Friday. It's Sillicone free. So, It shouldn't be slippery. I'll give it a shot. If that doesn't work. I'll look into that Meguiers protectant.

Re: seat protection

Oh ya...I sealed that wood real good before I had the seat put on. It's water tight now. The sled is in the garage all the time now. Unless I'm out on the trails with it. But, I have seen seats crack from getting dried out. Even sitting in a garage or shed.

seat protection

What are you guys useing on your seats to keep them soft? And from cracking? I just put a good used seat on my 86 vmax. And I would like to keep it in this condition. As long as I can. BTW...I would like to get something. That's NOT slipery as hell.....Armor All is NOT a good choice!!! I found that ...

Re: oil cable replacement??

Tyler...I got the cover off easy enuph. That last screw I just used a small needle-nose vise grips on. Didn't mangle the screw head hardly at all. BUT, once I got that cover off. I seen alot of grease inside. I asume from the factory, to keep things moving inside. Should I put some grease in after I...
